Parent Training & Family Support
Parenting can be challenging. Knowing the best response to your child in a given situation can help reduce your child’s behavior. It is key for parents to be able to help their child carry over the skills on a daily basis.
There are several goals to parent training, including:
- Working with parents to learn more effective ‘tools’ for managing problem behavior and difficult situations
- Assisting parents and other family members to cope with stress related to parenting
- Helping parents to access a full range of community supports
- Working with parents to anticipate future challenges
Parents are actively involved during sessions at Positive Behavior Practice, Parents are empowered by learning to use effective responses during sessions. There are times when it is also important to meet with parents without their child to review progress and practice consistent responding and to resolve obstacles to consistent responding. At times, sessions also involve working with the entire family to practice positive interactions between and among family members.
